Friends, I wrote up an alternative prayer of the day for tomorrow, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, and the movement it has again ignited.
It is for my particular context here in Cicero, but if it speaks to your contexts, feel free to use it. It is also written for Holy Trinity Sunday in the liturgical context of Pentecost.
O God, your Spirit pushes your disciples out of rooms locked in fear and empowers them to prophesy in languages that all can understand.
Send your Spirit among us again, make us your disciples. Teach us to listen to your Son, to speak your dreams that you spoke through him: the lowly are exalted, the last become first.
May your vision be our food and fuel in times of trial.
May we seek a church and society that reflects you, Holy Trinity: many but one, each one co-
equal in power and love.
May we seek racial justice and unity through the power of relationship and through the empowerment of all who are oppressed, knowing that true peace comes only when liberating justice is established in all the earth.
Make us seeds of hope and agents of change.
Send us grace, send us power, send us love.
Amen.
