Prayer of the Day for Epiphany 4a (January 29, 2023)

Peace, all. Here's a prayer for Epiphany 4a. This year it falls on January 29, 2023. We've got some oft-cited and famously loved texts this week which happen to be, also, quite radical in their naming of God's blessed and in their articulation of a spirituality that is lived through a communal striving toward liberation and love: Micah 6:1-8, Psalm 15, 1 Corinthians 1:-18-31, and Mattew 5:1-12.

As always, feel free to use it at your place of worship. If you remember to cite your sources (me), that'd be cool, too, as I pursue publishing here and there.

Prayer of the Day

How foolish and strange your Love appears, O God, where the pursuit of justice and kindness has been pushed away in exchange for a spirituality of chasing bottom lines. How foolish and strange are your words: Blessed are the merciful and the peacemakers and the poor. And yet, this foolishness is your wisdom. This strange sound is the beating of your heart.

Grant us the foolishness we need to follow Jesus down impossible paths toward a love that sets the world free. And grant us hearts whose pulse is a sustaining desire for peace born from that which is right and just: the lowly exalted and the hungry, hungry no more.
