Reformation Day: Call to Worship & Prayer of the Day

Peace, all. I wrote these up a couple of years ago for Reformation Day. Edited them a tiny bit today. I pray they are useful now. Enjoy! - Tom

Call to Worship for Reformation Day

A mighty fortress, a mother bear.

A still-small voice is our God.

Wind, when breath is short. Flame, when spark has dimmed.

Rock when all we love and all we know begins to crumble and fall.

Hope for all who are hopeless,

Grace when relationships fail.

Balm for healing. Water for growth.

Wisdom for we who are lost.

Voice of the voiceless. Sayer of the unsaid.

Solidarity for those alone.

A sanctuary, a hiding place.

When it takes all we have just to live.

The troubler of waters. The resurrection of the crucified.

The breaker of chains who moves us to love.

Word when there is nothing left to say.

Nets to catch us as we fall.

Melodies when our bones no longer dance.

Clouds and shrubs when suns begin to burn.

Author of new creations when our stories cease to make sense.

Flight of an eagle when we need a lift.

Knitter of your people–unraveled, threadbare.

The passion of the prophets. The song of songs.

Our life and our salvation. Sculptor of all.

You form and reform us–your body, your creation, your church.

And we rejoice in your presence now!

Prayer of the Day

Martin Luther, your follower, both beloved and flawed, O God, reminded us that faithfulness to you is never purchased as a possession, but always given away as love for the world, and livelihood for those the world has rendered poor. Amen.
