A Prayer of the Day for Easter 2a, April 16, 2023 (edited 4/15/23)

Peace, all! Here is a prayer for Easter 2a. It pairs well with the story of the Resurrected Body and Thomas. Hot off the digital press. There may be typos. Have a good weekend. ~ Tom

Prayer of the Day (Easter 2a)

Some days, fear moves in O God. It possesses us. “Keep out!” it says. “Do Not Disturb!” It shuts the blinds. Locks the doors. Anger paints the ceilings.

Nonetheless, your Love finds a way. Walking through walls. Casting out fear. Inviting hope to: “Come! Sit down. And stay a while!” Inviting us: “All who are weary, come!”

“These scars? You are welcome to touch them.” You gesture as you reach. “This one’s made of trauma. See it? And this one? Pain. This one here is made mostly of healing.” We do see. And we touch. And we wonder. Perhaps we are healing, too.

You reach. And we touch:

in and through each body gathered here.

You reach. And we touch:

in the celebration of a meal and in the return to the waters which we are about to share.

You reach. And we touch:

“Split some wood and I am there.

Lift a stone and you’ll find me.”*

 You reach. And we touch.

In every ounce of love you inject into our bodies, to spite our fears and ease our pains.

You reach. And we touch.

And so we sit. Together. We circle ‘round your joy, stoking the flames, and forging hope for the healing of many tomorrows.

You reach. And we touch. And the doors? They stand wide open.

May it be so.

Amen.

*“Split some wood and I am there. Lift a stone and you’ll find me.” These words are attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas, 77.
