Alt. Prayer of the Day for September 4, 2022 Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost, Year

Peace, all! Here's a simple prayer of the day that, as always, you are welcome to use. As I've said before, there is nothing extraordinary here--just a slightly different piety (maybe) than the official resources. Also, its focus is on the Jeremiah 18 text (which is itself the 'alternate' option for the first reading), so it may not be useful if you are avoiding the clay/potter stuff this week. I think I'm gonna be all about it--and I may opt to pair it with Romans 12 rather than the assigned second reading. Themes, etc. That's it, friends. Peace, again! ~ Tom

PRAYER OF THE DAY

God of all creation,

in scriptures you're described

as forming humankind from dust

using your breath and hands.

You are a potter,

the prophets and poets confess,

shaping and reshaping,

and never quite finished

with your works of art.

As your love crafts and contours our lives,

may we,

in each new creation,

more deeply reflect

your aspiration, your beauty,

your justice, and your love

for earth, sea, and sky,

and for all who dwell therein.

Amen!
